Road Home Pastel by Caroline Ratliff
"Road Home" was done as a demo for the Art League of Ft Bend. It has a watercolor under painting done on Wallis pastel paper. It must have inspired participants because their work turned out great.

Rolling Across
Rolling Across
Pastel Landscape of skies of the west series.
Pastel is a perfect medium for painting skies and for painting in plein air. I am intrigued by clouds and try to capture their essence before they roll away. This painting was done on Wallis sanded paper. I used both hard and soft pastels.

Teton Valley, Plein Air Pastel
Last September eight women painters from Texas spent a week painting plein air in the Tetons. I was the only one using pastel. It is a great medium for plein air. No mess! This painting shows the Tetons in the distance. I was actually in Idaho. Please visit my website for more images of the trip.
